“Impacting and Empowering the Lives of Women Veterans and Our Community”
Gloria Mick; U.S. Air Force Retired
Welcome! Thank you for your interest in the Women Warrior Veterans of Wilson County group. As veterans, we strive to provide a forum where we can share our ideas and concerns about our benefits, socialize with other women veterans and participate in veteran-focused activities in our communities.
Women in the Group served in different branches of the Services, globally and within the United States for a myriad of enlistments and service commitments.
I am an Air Force Chief Master Sergeant (Retired). My last position was as Chief, Air Force Casualty Services at the Air Force Personnel Center on Randolph AFB, TX. I am originally from Northern Michigan, a native Yooper! I was assigned to many different overseas locations, including the far North, Thule, Greenland. Upon retirement, using my Veteran educational benefits, I attended the University of Texas, San Antonio, graduating with Honors as a Human Resource Manager. I’ve worked in the private sector as a Benefits Budget Analysist and with the Department of the Army as its Benefits Administrator. I retired in July 2020.
I am a Past President of the Women in the Air Force (WAF) Association, a group of over 500 veteran and retired Airmen, some who still actively serve. My husband, Alan and I have two grown children who live in the San Antonio area. We volunteer at the SA Food Bank in its Apple Corps program, and I work part-time at a local funeral home.
The Women Warrior Veterans are an inspiring, service-focused group who bring their collective service and professional experience to the Wilson County community. We look forward to you joining us!
WWV Vice President:
Linda Nye; U.S. Army Retired
I am glad you are interested in the Women Veterans Warriors of Wilson County. I joined the organization in 2021 and have truly enjoyed the comradery of my fellow women veterans. I also find the services we are involved in very rewarding.
I served in the United States Army both in the Reserves and on Active Duty, for over 33 years as an Army Nurse in numerous positions including a hospital commander. In 1990, I deployed to Desert Storm with the 403rd Combat Support Hospital from Phoenix, AZ. There I served as the Assistant Chief Nurse and Officer in Charge of the Intensive Care Unit/Recovery Room. In 2005-2006, I deployed to Iraq with the 2nd Medical Brigade which was responsible for all Medical Operations in the Iraq Theater. I was the Senior Nurse Officer in the Iraq Theater and I served as the Officer in Charge of Medical Operations for the Iraq Theater. From 2005-2008 I served as a consultant to the Medical Directorate for Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, VA. I retired in 2010 as a Colonel.
On a personal note, my father and uncle served in the Army in WWII. My husband (who is a retired Special Forces Colonel) and I have been married 46 years. We have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. Our daughter and her husband are also in the Army, continuing the military tradition. I serve in several ministries at my church and enjoy gardening, walking and traveling.
